Naomh Éanna – All County Division 2 & Reserve Football

09/04/2017

A very good day for the senior footballers from Naomh Éanna.

45 players turned up for the double header at Musgrave Park where our seniors and senior reserves both returned home with the points.

The senior reserve game started proceedings at 1.30 with the sun shining.

Naomh Éanna started really well and by half time were leading by 3, on a scoreline of 1.3 to 0.3, and if truth be told should have been further ahead but for some poor shooting, 4 or 5 attempts fell short into the keepers arms when scores were there for the taking.

Naomh Éanna came out after the break and played much better, as we entered the last 5 minutes they drew level with a goal and added a point shortly after.

To Naomh Éannas credit, the players did not panic and drew level and with the last kick of the game Anto Curran scored a free from 45 metres – brilliant effort!

The team was – C losty, T Curran, G Corrigan, Chesnut, S Flynn (0.1), P McKillen, F O Connor, J Evans, B Flannigan (0.1), D Monaghan, M Mooney, C Thompson, P Coogan (0.1), C Hughes (1.1), A Curran (1,3),subs C Eastwood, D Clarke, F Eastwood, E Maguire, M McCann, O Kinnear,

The senior match started at 3pm and to be frank they had a whirlwind start, after 20 minutes they were 1,8 to 0.2 ahead and for some bad luck and miss hit shots they could have been 3.12 ahead.

In the 2nd half things continued in the same vein, and the scoreboard kept moving. Naomh Bríd had a late rally and scored 1.2 without reply in the last 10 minutes.

The team was P flood (0.3), K Jennings, D Gault, N Heatley, P Healy, C Maxwell, C Little (0.1), P Curran (1.0), N McKeown, K Healy (0.2), O Eastwood (0.6, 3f), JMCAuley, R Scott (1.3), G Crossey, M Morgan, subs D Walsh (0.1), C Hughes, J Maskey, D McNulty, K Hillen, R Gillan.

All in all a good day for the Hightown gaels – the Salmon are definitely back in the Glas na Bradan!

2020 U16 Captain Conor McAlister tells us what it's like to play corner back1. Why do you enjoy playing Corner Back?*You can see th game unfolding ,anticipate danger and build attacks.2.Whats your favourite in game moment from this position*The McMullan semi-final victory against Dunloy was a fantastic performance as a defensive unit. We kept the Dunloy attacked to 3 scores.3. Who is your favourite player in this position*Cathal Barrett, he is the sort of corner back that gives corner forwards sleepless nights. He is utterly fearless in his approach he's also as skillful as he is tough.4.What advice do you have for future corner backs?*Don't just try to knock the ball away at any time on the tackle. Time your tackle to when he has to bounce the ball or solo. It's easier when he is not holding it.5. You captained the U16 team during the 2020 season. Do you think this affected your game?*Being captain was a great role. The team's dedication and hard work payed off as we improved throughout the season.(Via @PRógCairanNE @ciaranmcginley73 ) ...
