At the recent Naomh Éanna CLG Annual General Meeting it was agreed that the annual membership fees should rise to take account of the increasing costs associated with the running of the Club. The new monthly membership is:
Adult (non playing) £7
Adult (playing) £12
Fees will be adjusted accordingly for families membership.
To set a context, our fees have remained steady over the last few years following a reduction several years ago. We have managed to live within costs and this was helped considerably over the years 2014-16 when Newtownabbey Council undertook to maintain our 3 pitches. That arrangement which saved the club ‘000s each year, has now finished and we have had to contract a company which provides similar maintenance to GAA clubs in North Antrim, to look after the facilities, estimated at £13-14k annually. That means the Club must meet the cost in its entirety and the costs. Our running costs in the last year was approx £60k and are expected to increase this year. That includes our Public Liability Insurance and players insurance at approximately £25k. We must pay insurance to allow all our 25+ teams to play. Importantly the fees are designed to ensure the Club ‘breaks even’ at the end of the year.
As a club we are continuing to grow rapidly. We have approximately 220 Adult members and 700 juvenile members. We are hopefully this year attract new members bring club membership over the 1000 mark. That is a fantastic achievement, testament to the hard work ongoing over the years, by committees and our coaches and represent a 100% increase in our membership in 10 years.
We are continuing to invest heavily in the infrastructure and in 2017 the Club will commence the building of a new Community / Sports Hall adjacent to the Gerry Devlin (Top) pitch. This is an exciting development and made possible by the securing of grant in excess of £1m. We have also purchased 7 acres of land for future development. Hopefully in late 2017 we will be training and playing in our own purpose built facility.
All together we are the fastest growing GAA club in Antrim; and one of the largest sporting clubs in North Belfast. We have a thriving GAA Football and Hurling programme and the Camogie has been restarted with great enthusiasm. Our Cul Camps are the biggest in Antrim, so much so we need to run 2 camps.
We have compared the proposed fees from a simple cost comparison against local soccer & swimming clubs (were the weekly fees are more than our monthly fee) and other GAA clubs that we found online. We believe are providing fantastic value for the minimal cost required, building a tremendous GAA community, in superb facilities which belong to all members and which will only get better.
